How blessed we have been over the years! Our story together begins in 1995 when we met in college at East Texas Baptist University. We got married in August of 1999 and then moved to the Dallas area in 2000. We both began our teaching careers- John teaching Texas history in middle school and Sarah teaching Kindergarten/1st grade. We have felt God's provision for us over the years as He has led us through lots of storms and obstacles along the way. We starting trying to have a baby after being married for a few years. This was no doubt a desire of our heart. Though the Lord was not ready to bless us with a child at the time. Finally after lots of infertility treatment, surgery and prayer, six years later we were blessed with our 1st born- Jake. Three years later, Jonah our middle son was born. Then, quite unexpectedly, a year and a half later, Judson was born. Looking back, we can see with a new lens how His timing and provision is SPOT ON!
We feel this was preparation for where He has us now- the mission field!
After feeling for years that the Lord was about to call us to something else and out of teaching we both went on a few short term mission trips to South Africa. It was there where we felt a deep calling that what we were doing during those short term trips was what the Lord wants us to do for the rest of our days. We spent time lots of time processing and in prayer seeking the Lord's guidance regarding this huge commitment and amazing opportunity. We began working alongside John and Barbara Doyle with Cape Missions International. Cape Missions International was constituted to assist churches and mission organizations both locally and internationally who have a passion for evangelism and Biblical training who desire to assist in reaching South Africa , and in particular the next generation, for Jesus Christ. John and Barbara Doyle will be officially retiring from full time work with CMI. They have asked us to help take over the ministry. We feel blessed that the Lord called us to do this work and it will in fact be a call for our whole family as we pray and seek His will and provision each day.
John and I were blessed to grow up in a home where we were given a bible and taught about Jesus at a very early age. We both accepted Christ as children. Our faith is simple-- we love Jesus! We believe He is the son of the one true God. He died on the cross for our sins. Three days later, He rose from the grave! He is alive today, seated at the right hand of God. We have the gift of the Holy Spirit living inside of us when we accept Christ into our lives. There is nothing on earth we can do to earn our way to Heaven. It is the free gift from God. All we have to do is recognize that we are a sinner in need of a Savior, repent and ask Christ to come into our lives/our hearts and change us from the inside out and start living for HIM!
We are far from perfect and need grace and forgiveness on a daily basis! What comfort we draw knowing that we are His and He is ours! No matter what we do, we cannot be plucked from His hand. He loves us and we experience Him every day of our lives. He is our comforter, our provider, our peace, our healer and our salvation! If you do not know Him and want to know Him we would love to share more with you! Its so easy- just talk to Him. He's listening.....
There is so much history in this country that has led to racial tension, poverty and crime. South Africa often feels like two different countries chafing up against each other—one for the rich and one for the poor. This separation was legislated under apartheid, but post-apartheid South Africa has struggled to bridge the divide.
We are beyond grateful to have this amazing opportunity to continue the work of Cape Missions International. CMI exists to share the love of Jesus Christ with the people of the Western Cape by sharing the gospel and helping meet the spiritual and physical needs of the communities we serve. Through this ministry we are able to train local pastors and plant churches in the township communities, provide food, clothing and shoes to those in need. We will also have other outreach opportunities, all for the purpose of sharing the gospel.
